Donor Recognition Blends with the Residential Atmosphere

The Phoebe Light House is a handsome brick building located on the edge of the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital campus, on a tree lined street in Albany, Georgia. It is a convenient respite for patients and families needing a home-away-from-home during cancer treatment. And it, like many other major projects in the community, was funded by gifts from the community.

In 1987, Phoebe built its first Light House. Sadly, major storms in January 2017 damaged the original facility beyond repair. The Phoebe Foundation accepted the charge from health system leadership to develop funding for the rebuild. Individual and corporate donors stepped forward, the employee giving program, P.E.A.C.H. (Phoebe Employees Active in Community Health) designated funds from their campaign, and the foundation contributed resources compiled from annual giving. Together, the community reopened the treasured Light House!

The designs for this space needed to work well with the interior design and function of the home-like facility. Heurista partnered with Shari Butalla of Modern Rustic Art to create the wood and acrylic, framed wall. The interior naming signs are discreetly sized and made of the same materials. The exterior recognition is painted stainless steel that coordinates well with the brick facade of the Light House. Phoebe Health, the Phoebe Foundation and their supporters in southwest Georgia deserve special recognition for their achievements in 2020. Albany was especially hard hit during the pandemic. Yet, under the leadership of recently appointed CEO, Scott Steiner and the relatively new Executive Director of the Phoebe Foundation, Carolyn Higgins, Phoebe forged ahead successfully with multiple initiatives: a pandemic relief fund, launching the Phoebe Simulation Center, the opening of the Light House, and funding a major renovation in the NICU. Projects that would have once represented sequential 3-year campaigns were completed almost simultaneously!
