Moving to Vermont!

Over the course of the last year, everyone experienced so many changes – changes in our work environments, our social behaviors, and the ways we connect to our communities. More than one member of the Heurista team experienced a “Covid moment,” the strong and sudden decision that it was time to move ahead with a big “someday maybe” kind of event. In the course of it all, we found a silver lining in the crazy year: a realization that not only were we willing to work from anywhere but we’re actually really good at it. We trust ourselves to do our best work individually and as a team without the constraints of a specific physical location.

So, in fairly rapid order, we put our beautiful building in Asheville up for sale (it sold to the first person to look at it) and began shopping in earnest for our next great adventure… a live/work space in Vermont. Those of you who have known us for a while will not be surprised by our wunderlust. We’ve considered everything from the Pacific Northwest to Maine, New Zealand to New Brunswick. We thought we wanted land and a big forever home, but what we found is even better…

Welcome, one and all to our next master project, a deconsecrated, mid-century Catholic church in Saxtons River, Vermont! This is going to be a bit of an adventure. Right now, there’s no shower, a make-shift kitchen, and about twenty remaining church pews, but by the end of May 2021, we will be living and working from there. The internet is great, the Village Market is right across the street, the river is a block away, and Main Street Arts and the Vermont Academy are both within walking distance. We have a pipe organ and a carillon to play (we’ll need lessons on both), plenty of room for the in-home studio we’ve always wanted, and lots of opportunities for outdoor activities.

We will surely miss the North Carolina mountains, but don’t consider us “gone” from the South. We will always have family, friends, and clients to bring us back. Just think of it this way: Heurista is spreading her wings. We can now be found in many spaces and places! We’ll post updates and look forward to seeing you whenever, wherever, and whatever brings us together.
